Welcome to the temporary web-home for the Ghonasgi lab. The main webpage is under construction. Please find details about our research and call for graduate students below
I'm recruiting graduate students for the 2025-26 academic year.
I'm pleased to announce multiple openings for PhD and MS candidates interested in wearable robot design and control for human assistance, rehabilitation, and augmentation as part of the Ghonasgi research group (actual name TBD) at Rice University. I am seeking highly motivated students with mechanical engineering, electrical/computer engineering, biomedical engineering, computer science, or related STEM degrees. Ideal candidates would have experience with robot design and control, human-subject experiments, machine learning, and/or data analysis in Matlab/Python.
Here's a slide deck that describes the lab goals, planned research directions, technology, and what I'm looking for in graduate students: Link to slides (download for video content).
This research lab is currently being established and graduate students who join in the 2025-26 academic year will form the first cohort. If this sounds like a good fit for you, please follow the instructions for applying to graduate programs in Rice University's Mechanical Engineering Department. The deadline is December 15th. If you apply and want to work with me, please highlight this in your application - indicate me as one of your two preferred advisors, and mention me in your statement of purpose. Once you have applied (and only after), feel free to email me directly to let me know. If you are a good fit for the lab, I will reach out and set up a meeting.
I look forward to seeing your application.
